Friday’s column was the last scheduled Within Driving Distance. And, I’m not going to lie, despite my excitement to not *have* to go explore somewhere each week, I’m rather sad.
When Alexis and I began this journey, it was on a whim. We wanted to get out more, do something other than spend days being bums at our respective houses. But I never anticipated half the things I’d see during it.
I didn’t expect to follow a trail of poo to wild ponies at Shackleford Banks, or to see the River Court where so much of One Tree Hill has been filmed. I certainly never expected to run across downtown New Bern because a ghost story freaked me out or to go to a baseball game. I drove a bit further south and stumbled upon a place where part of the Notebook was filmed. And Alexis found what she swears is a ghost in one of my photos.
Despite how much we’ve seen and how many places we’ve gone, there’s still SO MUCH MORE!
So, technically the adventures aren’t ending. Every now and again, I may still pop up in Max Magazine. And this blog will be updated on a regular basis with upcoming events and I’ll still update with whatever place I’ve visited recently.
This has been one hell of a ride. And I have definitely seen more of Eastern North Carolina since WDD began than I had in the 24 years before it.
